In 2015, I was employed by the University of Canberra (UC) to assist the Faculty of Arts & Design discipline of Architecture to prepare for the The Architects Accreditation Council of Australia National Visiting Panel (NVP). Eighteen months prior, UC had been warned that they would lose their accreditation to teach architecture if significant changes were not made to their program.
The complexity associated with preparing for the NVP was in how to present the over 850 items of student work and pedagogy material that the panel reviews. Working directly with the Convenor of Architecture, Erin Hinton, we developed a coherent floor layout and signage and labeling system to assist the panel in navigating the space. Erin and I devised a colour coding system that was used across all of the material to identify which competencies were being met in each unit. The colour for each competency was then further divided into tints to reflect in which year the unit was completed.
